VP of Sales for a Medical Device Company is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the sales strategy and overseeing the sales department for the company’s medical device products. This position requires strong leadership, industry knowledge, and strategic thinking to grow revenue and market share while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and delivering value to customers.
Job Description: VP of Sales - Medical Devices
Position Summary:
The Vice President (VP) of Sales will lead and manage the distribution team, developing and executing a comprehensive sales strategy to drive revenue growth and market share for our medical device products. This executive-level role requires a deep understanding of the medical device industry, strong business acumen, and the ability to work closely with other departments (such as marketing, R&D, and regulatory) to ensure sales objectives align with company goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales Strategy Development & Execution: Develop and implement the overall sales strategy to meet or exceed company revenue targets. Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics to shape the sales approach.
- Team Leadership & Management: Lead, motivate, and manage a team contracted distributor representatives and sales support personnel. Set clear sales targets and monitor performance to ensure success.
- Revenue Growth & Market Expansion: Identify new market opportunities, drive the expansion of sales in existing markets, and ensure strong sales growth for existing products as well as new product launches.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key healthcare providers, hospitals, and distributors. Represent the company at medical conferences, trade shows, and industry events.
- Sales Forecasting & Reporting: Develop accurate sales forecasts and provide regular performance reports to the executive team. Analyze sales performance data and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Work closely with marketing, product development, regulatory affairs, and customer support teams to ensure product positioning, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all sales activities comply with relevant healthcare regulations and industry standards, including FDA, HIPAA, and international regulatory bodies.
- Budget & Resource Allocation: Oversee the sales budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for sales activities, travel, and marketing programs.
- Talent Development: Attract, develop, and retain top sales talent. Provide coaching and mentoring to sales leaders and individual contributors to ensure continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in medical device sales with a proven track record of success in sales leadership, preferably in a VP or Director-level role.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the medical device industry, including market trends, key players, and regulatory requirements.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead and inspire a high-performing sales team. Excellent coaching, mentoring, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Business Acumen: Expertise in sales forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning. Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable presenting to senior executives, customers, and stakeholders.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
- Travel: Willingness to travel as needed to meet with customers, attend industry events, and oversee sales team activities.
